Yandex, partners produce 1st lot of made-in-Russia servers

MOSCOW, Nov 19 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex with partners have manufactured the first batch of locally made servers, the company said on Friday in a statement.

“They are based on the server of the fourth generation designed by Yandex,” the company said.

Such servers are exploited in data processing centers to expand cloud platform Yandex.Cloud and in Yandex’s supercomputers.

The servers were designed to work in large data processing centers with high capacity and energy efficiency. They do not need active cooling systems and can function at the temperature of 40 degrees Celsius above zero. Yandex said the first lot of the services is being tested in its infrastructure.

The servers were made at contract manufacturing ALT Master in the city of Zelenongrad, a Moscow district, but in 2022 the projected joint venture of Yandex, IT companies Lanit and Gigabyte, and VTB Bank will launch its own facility in the Ryazan Region.

At the first stage, the joint venture will invest in the project 1 billion rubles. The facility will make similar servers under own brand Openyard and sell them to other companies.
